Tiyar in Bangladesh
How would life be different without electricity? Most Tiyar people live in villages with little access to electricity or indoor plumbing, and the Bangladeshi government is working to improve their living conditions. The Tiyar people of Bangladesh and India are named after the Sanskrit word for "hunters."
Ministry Obstacles: The Tiyar people are Hindu, and they believe that they will achieve a form of spiritual freedom through their good deeds. They need a hunger for the spiritual freedom that only Jesus Christ can offer.
Outreach Ideas: Fortunately, the JESUS Film is available in the Tiyar's language, Bengali. Bengali-speaking believers can take this film to them.
Scripture Focus: "Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone." Psalm 33:22
Scripture Prayer: Pray for this people group to give their love and devotion to the Lord and be rewarded with hope and joy forever.
Prayer Focus: Many Tiyar are fishermen. Pray that they would deeply connect with Jesus' call to be fishers of men. When the fishing season is not good, the Tiyar people suffer greatly. Pray that they would find ways to diversify their economy so that they can rely on other industries for income. Pray that education would become more accessible, so the next generation can continue advancing their society. Pray that Jesus would captivate the hearts of key Tiyar leaders and use them to begin a movement to Christ in Bangladesh.
