Kashmiri (Muslim traditions) in India
pronounced: kash-MEER-ee

Snow and glaciers in India? That’s Kashmir, home of the Muslim Kashmiris. Kashmir is a popular tourist destination during the hot summer months. Unfortunately, Jammu and Kashmir remains highly disputed between India, Pakistan, and China, and there is sporadic fighting.

Ministry Obstacles: Most Kashmiri are devout Sunni Muslims. Their civilization has been heavily influenced by Muslim mystics and Persian culture. Kashmiri Muslims are convinced the Bible is wrong when it contradicts the Koran. Those who "convert to Christianity" are viewed as immoral, degenerate people. Many Kashmiris have heard of Jesus Christ, but view him merely as a prophet and teacher, not as the only one who can forgive our sins.

Outreach Ideas: Kashmiris in Jammu are known to be very hospitable and enjoy entertaining guests over tea, so visitors can take the gospel in an informal setting. Pray for workers to find persons of peace among the Kashmiris.

Scripture Focus: "He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes." Deut 10:21

Scripture Prayer: Pray that many from this people group will make the Lord their only God, and thank Him for His miracles.

Prayer Focus: Pray for a movement of God’s Holy Spirit among families causing many to seek their loving Savior who died for them. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of Kashmiri leaders.
