Majhi of Nepal
Majhis are polite and shy, and also very friendly and helpful. Due to these points they are defeated in many ways and the so-called high castes have exploited them excessively. The historical occupation of the Majhi people has been to help others in crossing the many rivers of Nepal in their Majhi-made boats. "Tantrik" religion is the Majhi religion. The Majhi have no temples or man-made places of worship; they establish gods or goddesses at the base of a tree near a river, a primarily animist belief system.
An animistic worldview is sometimes called "pre-Christian." It's an obstacle at first, but people can be shown that the Creator is more worthy of worship than His creation.
The Lord is doing great things in Nepal, calling many to himself. Perhaps some of these Nepali believers will remember to carry the Gospel to the Majhi community.
Pray for the followers of Christ among the Majhi community of Nepal, that good teachers will help them grow in Christ, and that they will have a positive testimony to others in their community.
The Majhi are very poor. They are sinking ever deeper into poverty and despair. Please pray for them.
"He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy He will save." Psalm 72:13
