Madura of Indonesia
The Madura are the third largest people group in Indonesia. They are renowned for their harsh character and lifestyles. This is probably caused by their natural surroundings and their history of oppression by others. The majority of Madura people are known for being very devout Sunni Muslims. Nevertheless, many Madura people seek security by the use of magic spells that are used in an attempt to control both good and evil spirits.
The large Madura community has long resisted the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but that can change.
Much sustained, focused prayer is needed to prepare the hearts of the Madura to understand and believe the good news of Jesus. Prayer prepares the ground.
There are only a few Christian believers among the large Madura people group. Pray they will rest firmly upon Jesus and his finished work on the cross, being zealous to know and serve him, and living consistently in the power of His Spirit. Pray they will be tactful yet bold witnesses for Christ to their own people.
Madura people generally have a low income. Medical services, better nutrition and education are greatly needed. Education, especially jobs skills education, is an immense need.
