The Hajam remains a fairly respected caste of hair-cutters. In some areas the Hajams are the owners of barber shops and salons. In the Muslim community they can often be an active part of the community as hair-trimming for major family events like weddings and funerals. Even minor ritual surgeries like circumcision can be conducted by some Hajam. In some communities they can also be match-makers and some Hajam women assist with childbirth. Though they are Sunni Muslims, married women will often be distinguished by a nose-stud and the "bindi" dot on the forehead.
To our knowledge, there are no followers of Christ from the Hajam community. For that reason, it will take an outsider to show them the way to love, honor and obey the Heavenly Bridegroom.
Believers in India need haircuts just like everyone else! They can make a point of doing business with Hajam people and telling them stories about Jesus. They can also leave them with gospel materials in a language they can understand.
"At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike." Matthew 11:25
Pray for this people group to humble themselves and come to trust in Christ as little children.
Though there are currently no known believers among the Hajam people, they should be given high priority because they have contact with so many different communities. If Hajams start to gossip the gospel, they can reach many of India's thousands of people groups. * Pray for spiritual hunger among Muslim Hajam community leaders. * Pray for faithful people to have contact with the Hajams and show them the way to be discipled. * Pray that the Lord will send His Word to Hajam's spiritual leaders and that they will open the door for their people to embrace the Savior of all mankind.
