pronounced: jaht
The Jats rose to prominence following the 1669 Jat uprising against Mughal rule, and they ruled various princely states throughout the 18th century. After 1858, under the British Raj, the Jats were known for their service in the Indian Army, being categorized as a "martial race" by the British. Today the Jat peoples are one of the most prosperous groups in India on a per-capita basis. Traditionally Jats have dominated as the political class in Haryana and Punjab.
Islam is a formidable obstacle to the gospel. The Muslim Jats live in some of the least reached parts of northern India and Pakistan.
Jats have a strong affinity for their history. If Christ's ambassadors went to them with an eagerness to study and learn about this martial community, they can probably find a way to build the kind of rapport it takes to share spiritual matters.
Then He asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah.” Mark 8:29
Pray that this people would believe and proclaim, like Peter, that Jesus Christ is their Savior and Lord.
There are few if any believers among Jats from a Muslim background, so pray for the Lord to make a way for them to hear, believe and act upon the gospel. * Pray for the Holy Spirit to give Jat Muslims the spiritual hunger necessary to seek and find the Savior. * Pray for the Lord to penetrate entire Muslim Jat families and clans so that they can enjoy the blessings of being children of the King of kings. * Pray for a movement of Jesus to heal and strengthen Jat communities.
