Teli (Muslim traditions) in India

The word 'Teli' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'tailika' or 'tails', which means oil pressed from seeds. Traditionally this community manufactured mustard or sesame oil. Muslim Teli can be found in Pakistan and North India. Muslim Teli are called Teli Malik. Their traditional occupation of oil pressing is now being replaced with cash crops and other private business. The Teli now have many small businessman and traders amongst them, although many are still engaged in oil pressing.

Ministry Obstacles

There are no known believers among the Muslim Telis, so they will have to hear the gospel from those who are members of other communities.

Outreach Ideas

Everyone in India uses cooking oil! Believers can have regular contact with Muslim Teli people when they buy their product.

Pray for the followers of Christ

As far as we know, no one from the Muslim Teli community has put their faith in Jesus, so pray for Him to take radical steps to get their attention.

Pray for the entire people group

* Pray for networks of believing families and fellowships that will throw the doors open for others to follow Jesus. * Pray for the Lord to bless the families among the Muslim Teli people with his presence and mercy. * Pray for Bible believing fellowships and churches among the Teli people.

Scripture Focus

"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?' Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." John 4:35
