Pinjara in India

pronounced: pin-JAR-ah

The Pinjara (Pinja, Penja, Bahna or Dhunia) derive their name from the term pinjala meaning "cotton weaver." Their traditional occupation is naturally one of cleaning and reeling cotton to make pillows, quilts or even mattresses. Most likely the Muslim Pinjara converted to Islam about 500 years ago during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb. Pinjaras are sometimes looked down on by other Muslims because their Islamic beliefs are more tainted by Hinduism than other Muslim communities.

Ministry Obstacles

The idea of depending on a holy Savior for salvation is a foreign idea to Muslims like the Pinjaras.

Outreach Ideas

Believers need to form prayer groups and intercede for the Pinjaras on a regular basis until they open their hearts to the savior and there are those actively discipling them.

Prayer Items

There are no known followers of Christ among the Muslim Pinjaras, so pray for Him to reveal Himself to their leaders in ways that they cannot deny. * Pray for grace and truth expanding into the entire Pinjara society as all believers learn to love others. * Pray that churches and believers will bless their entire people group in such a way that God's love will change the Pinjara people like yeast changes dough. * Pray for networks of believing families and fellowships that will throw the doors open for others to follow Jesus.

Scripture Focus

"That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me." John 17:21
