Alawite in Turkey

You may have never heard the word "Alawite" before, but they have power in some parts of the Middle East. The Alawite sect is considered an offshoot of Shia Islam. Thousands of Alawites have fled the turmoil in Syria and now live as refugees in Turkey. The Alawites in Turkey hope that they can someday return to Syria.

Ministry Obstacles

The average Alawite will not discuss his or her religion or religious topics due to fear of persecution by majority Sunni Muslims. If an Alawite receives Christ, there will be serious social consequences from family and neighbors.

Outreach Ideas

Ministries to refugees can help meet the physical needs of the Alawites. This help may bring an openness to the gospel if the Alawite sees the love of Jesus demonstrated to them in practical ways. The Christian workers can pass out literature and the JESUS Film as they provide food and water.

Scripture Focus

"You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart."  Jeremiah 29:13

Scripture Prayer

Pray that today’s people group will seek the Lord will all their hearts and find Him to be merciful, loving and powerful.

Prayer Focus

A tiny fraction of the Alawites in Turkey are believers. Pray they would find other believers and that they would persevere in the faith. Pray they would have access to Bibles and correct teaching. Ask the Lord to send medical and educational teams of believers to the Alawite refugees. Pray the Alawites in Turkey would be receptive to the good news of Jesus. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Alawites in Turkey.
