pronounced: kuh-NET RAHJ-puts
The Kanet Rajputs are a large group of farmers in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Kanet means "indifferent to caste" in Sanskrit. The Kanets claim to be descendants of the rulers of a mountain kingdom that existed 2000 years ago. Rajput means "sons of rulers." The Kanets live in the hills and valleys of the west Himalaya Mountains. They cultivate barley, wheat, lentils, maize, and potatoes as their main crops. Some Kanets own their land while others cultivate the soil of others.
Many of the Kanet women cannot read which means the gospel must be presented to them in oral or visual forms. The mountainous terrain may make reaching the Kanet difficult. Higher caste Hindu background believers may not want to associate with the Kanets.
The JESUS Film can reach people who are unable to read. Agricultural experts could help the Kanet increase their crop yield. Teachers could teach Kanet women, and children can learn the basics of literacy.
But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture. Mal 4:2
Pray that this people group would fear the name of the Lord and experience His healing.
There are no known believers among the Kanets at the present time. Pray that Hindu background believers would take the initiative to share the good news of Christ with the Kanet. * Pray the Lord will give them a spiritual hunger, and then satisfy that hunger. * Pray for the Rajput Kanets community to increasingly grow in awareness of Jesus, His life and His sacrifice for them. * Pray that the Kanets will understand the value of becoming part of God's family.
