pronounced: koo-mah-OWN-ee RAHJ-put
The Kumaoni Rajputs live in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand in the southern Himalaya Mountains. Most Kumaoni people are employed in agriculture growing potatoes, wheat, barley, and vegetables. The Kumaoni speak their own language Kumaoni among themselves and Hindi with outsiders.
The Kumaoni have been Hindus for hundreds of years. If a Kumaoni person becomes a believer, he or she may face shunning from their family. The mountain valleys where the Kumaoni live in are often isolated from others and hard to reach.
Unemployment is a problem for Kumaoni young people. Believers can start businesses and employ the unemployed and then tell them about the blessings of Christ.
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Hab 3:18
Pray this people group learns to rejoice in the Lord and His salvation.
There are no known believers among the Kumaoni. Pray that Hindu background believers go to the Kumaoni and share the good news with them. *Pray the Lord sends workers to them to help them with new job skills and their crop yields. *Pray for their spiritual lives to become fruitful as they learn to follow Christ. *Pray the whole Bible is translated into Kumaoni and becomes easily available to them.
