Western Baloch in Iran

The Baloch people live in several countries. Although most live in Pakistan, many live over the border in Iran. They are nominally Sunni Muslims. The Western Baloch are evenly divided between those who live the lives of rural farmers/herdsmen and those who live in urban centers, where many of their young men migrate to find work. They are closed to change thanks to illiteracy, tribalism and traditional ways. As a result, most are poor with a high infant mortality rate. Some were once slaves (emancipation came in the 1950s).

Ministry Obstacles

There are many man-made obstacles that only God can overcome. They include Iranian government policies, Illiteracy, tribalism and Muslim traditions that work against openness to the gospel.

Outreach Ideas

Christian schoolteachers and medical professionals can go to the Baloch people and have regular contact with them. There is also the JESUS Film and gospel recordings that can plant gospel seeds.

Scripture Focus

"We acknowledge our wickedness, O LORD, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you."  Jeremiah 14:20

Scripture Prayer

Pray that soon leaders among this people group will repent of their sins and lead others to do the same.

Prayer Focus

Pray for a spiritual hunger among the Western Baloch that will lead them to the cross and the empty grave. Pray that the Church would recognize the need to evangelize the Western Baloch and design strategies to reach them. Pray that urban Baloch youth would open themselves to the gospel and that believers would deliberately go with the purpose of establishing Christ's presence among them.
