The Wandala people get some of their income from trading arts and crafts with other peoples, but they receive most of their income through farming. They are a conservative male dominated society, residing in northern Cameroon and Nigeria. Polygamy is common, with the first wife being the "head" wife over the others. They live in small villages or groups of huts that have a particular elder residing among them (usually in the center hut) who leads that village.
They are rigid Muslims, and Islam infiltrates much of their life. With this heavy influence of Islam, they are not very open to the claims of Christ, which they associate with other people groups.
The Wandala have the New Testament, but a translation of the Old Testament could be of help. It is possible for linguists to live among them and produce a Wandala Old Testament and other gospel materials.
"And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd." Ezekiel 34:23
Pray for today’s people group to submit to the one true shepherd, Jesus Christ.
Pray that Wandala followers of Christ would shine their light by their lives and words. Pray that the Lord would continue to protect them; they have not yet faced persecution. Pray that the Lord would lift the veil of deception and that they can see their need for the free gift of salvation in Christ. Pray that the Lord would move the hearts of local elders, so that they may influence those they lead. Pray for a Disciple Making Movement among the Wandala people this decade.
