Khampa Eastern in China

pronounced: Kum-ba

The Khampa have a fearsome reputation as the most aggressive of Tibetans. They are traditional warriors who had survived in a harsh land. The Khampa have a long history of conflict with the Chinese. In 1959 the Khampa in Lhasa organized a revolt against Chinese rule, the last group to resist the Chinese takeover. Catholic work among the Khampa commenced in the mid-1800s. The Catholic mission at Batang Township was demolished in 1873 and 1905 - after two priests had been killed and converts who would not deny their faith were shot.

Ministry Obstacles

The worldview of Buddhism often makes it difficult for people to see their need for forgiveness of sin. Please pray the Spirit of Christ will give the Khampa the gift of conviction of sin.

Outreach Ideas

Much prayer is needed to prepare the hearts of the Khampa to understand and believe the good news about Jesus.

Scripture Focus

To whom can you compare God? What image can you find to resemble him? Can He be compared to an idol formed in a mold, overlaid with gold, and decorated with silver chains? Is 40:18-19

Scripture Prayer

Pray that this people group will soon understand that they can never form an idol that compares with the Lord.

Prayer Focus

Pray for the few followers of Jesus among the Eastern Khampa to be united around the truth of Scripture. Pray they will live holy lives, in the power of the Lord's Spirit. Pray they will consistently display the fruit of Christ's Spirit, and will be faithful witnesses to the goodness of Christ to family and friends. Pray the Lord will give Khampa families understanding and responsive hearts as they hear about the love of Christ. Pray the Khampa people will turn fully from their chaotic past, desiring to know the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Pray they will live in peace with their neighbors.
