The Tindi live very close to one another, in every way! Though they use different dialects, 14 villages all speak the same language. The Tindi dwell in the mountains of Dagestan, almost bordering Georgia and Chechnya. When Russia moved some of the Tindi to Chechnya in 1944, many believed that their culture suffered because of the move. The Tindi trade has traditionally been in cattle production and farming but in recent years many have become white-collar specialists.
The greatest ministry obstacle to reaching the Tindi people seems to be their intellectual pride. Tindi villages are well known for religious and secular education and they produce many scientists, teachers and doctors.
To reach the Tindi, one may benefit from having knowledge of Sunni Islam and the ability to communicate in Tindi. This people group also includes many well-known scientists and Muslim theologians. To gain their respect, it would help to be intellectually prepared in these areas.
"And many peoples shall come, and say: Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem." Isaiah 2:3
Pray for a heart-felt seeking of the Lord among many from today’s people group.
Probably every Tindi person follows a blend of Sunni Islam and their traditions of worshipping the sun and the rain. Ask God to break through cultural, intellectual and religious traditions with a desire for true spiritual understanding, and pray that the Lord would point their hearts to Jesus. Pray for a movement to Christ among them in the 2020s.
