Assamese (Muslim traditions) in Bhutan

Although subject to periodic Tibetan invasions from the north, Bhutan has retained continuous autonomy since its founding by the military leader Shabdrung and the Tibetan Lama in the 17th century AD. Under British influence a monarchy was formally established on December 17th, 1907 with Ugyen Wangchuck as the first King of Bhutan. Several guerrilla groups seeking to establish an independent Assamese state in northeast India have more recently set up guerrilla bases in the forests of southern Bhutan from which they launch cross-border attacks on targets in Assam. These are the Assamese.

Ministry Obstacles

In the past, Bhutan has not been open to any kind of Christian witness or work. Things are improving, but access is still limited.

Outreach Ideas

There are many Christian believers in northeast India, and also in Nepal. Pray that some will be burdened to carry the good news of Jesus to the Assamese people of Bhutan.

Pray for the followers of Christ

A few followers of Jesus have been identified among the Assamese of Bhutan. Pray their faith will grow strong, and rest firmly upon Christ and his finished work on the cross. Pray for teachers and pastors for them. Pray also for the many Assamese that will soon join their numbers.

Pray for the entire people group

Pray the Assamese of Bhutan will desire to live in peace with their neighbors. Pray they will increasingly desire a real solution to the problem of sin.

Scripture Focus

"Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations." Luke 24:46-47
