In Nigeria, the Hausas and Fulanis have merged to become the most powerful people in Nigeria. Smaller people groups like the Nggwahyi are merging with them, but as that process continues, the Nggwahyi people are in danger of losing their own language and culture. Young people prefer to speak Hausa and English they learn in school. No Christian resources are currently available in the Nggwahyi language.
In most of the Muslim world, peoples like the Nggwahyi depend on the spirit world for their daily needs since they regard Allah as too distant. For that reason, they put their faith in unclean spirits. They often use charms and amulets to help them deal with spiritual forces that Christ has already conquered.
Believers can use power encounters to show the Nggwahyi people that there is a God of power and love who would love to take care of their needs.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life." Psalm 139:23-24
Pray that many from this people group will have the kind of intimacy with the Lord that it takes to purge their lives of anything that offends Him.
A small fraction of the Nggwahyi have put their faith in Christ. They need to share that God-given faith with the others. Pray that the Lord would send Nigerian believers led by the Holy Spirit to share the gospel with the Nggwahyi. Pray for the Lord to raise up a strong Disciple Making Movement to saturate the hearts and minds of the Nggwahyi people. Pray for abundant rain for their crops and that they will bless the God of Heaven who provides for their needs.
