Through excellent soil preparation practices, the Kurmi thrive in agriculture. No other agricultural caste in India is as large as this group. The Kurmi are found in many parts of India, with heavy concentrations in the northeast. Their skill in agriculture has made them relatively prosperous, even though the type of work they do makes them a lower caste, due to their relationship with the soil.
The Kurmi are isolated from the Bible, and fear that Christians want to win Kurmi children away from their families into Christian communities, which are considered to be a different caste.
Many with a vision for the unreached also have a passion for improved agricultural techniques. Jesus' many agricultural references may provide a bridge for helping Kurmi families experience God's blessing through His Word.
A small number of Kurmi have identified themselves as Christian. Pray that these believers will be fruitful and effective in sharing God's Word and blessing to strengthen their own families and spread God's blessing to other Kurmi households.
Pray for a movement to Jesus to multiply among Kurmi households.
