Amman, Jordan is a city with an invisible population. The invisible ones are generically called "Turkmen" because they speak a Turkish-based language. These people make their living by collecting and selling items that have been thrown out. Their makeshift homes in squatter camps can be bulldozed at any time. They are undocumented, so marriages are not recorded in government records. This means that wives are at the mercy of men who want to take on other wives or divorce them and take the children. Frequently these women cannot see their children again. Turkmen in Jordan marry as early as age 15.
The Turkmen of Jordan consider themselves to be devout Sunni Muslims, and some of them are becoming more devout as they endure poverty and misery. Becoming a believer in Christ would bring serious consequences upon Turkmen who leaves Islam and embraces the Savior.
Jordanian followers of Christ can build relationships with Turkmen and tell them about Isa (Jesus).
"Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom." Psalm 111:10
Pray for fear of the Lord and wisdom to come to this people group.
Pray for God to shower his abundant mercy on these suffering people in Jordan. Pray that God would pour out his blessings on the Turkmen in Jordan as they seek to know God's truth. Pray for Christ's ambassadors to go to the Turkmen in Jordan. Ask the Lord to open the spiritual eyes of the Turkmen living in Jordan to the wonders of Christ, leading to a Disciple Making Movement.
