pronounced: DOH-dee-ah
The Hindu Dhodia people are located in the southeastern districts of Gujarat, a state in northwestern India. Their villages lie in the hilly regions south of the Tapi River. The Dhodia are the highest ranking tribe and the third largest tribal group in Gujarat. They speak Dhodia, a Bhil language. Most Dhodia have given up the nomadic lifestyles of their ancestors and have settled into farming. Forest labor, trade labor (in the cities), hunting, and fishing are also occupations of the Dhodia.
The Dhodia have been Hindus for hundreds of years. Hinduism is part of their identity. The Dhodia live in deep forests, which may be hard to reach by outsiders.
Teachers can help educate their children and help adults learn new job skills. Bibles and literature are available in Gujarati, which most Dhodia speak.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Ps 111:10
Pray for fear of the Lord and wisdom to come to this people group.
There are a tiny number of Dhodia believers. Pray they will be trained to share the good news with their brothers and sisters and disciple them. * Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth faithful workers to live among the Dhodia and teach them how to disciple others. * Ask God to grant wisdom and favor to mission agencies focusing on the Dhodia. * Pray for Jesus movements to bless extended Dhodia families so the gospel will spread rapidly among this people group.
