pronounced: TAH-mill BRAH-min
The Tamil Brahmins have been the highest caste of priests and Hindu scholars in the southern Indian region of Tamil Nadu for 2,000 years. Until recent times they have dominated the leadership of the Hindu temples in Tamil-speaking lands. In addition to being the Hindu temple priests, they made up the large majority of the administrators and governmental officials during the British period. Today the Brahmin Tamils continue to serve as government leaders, university professors, jurists, engineers, and scientists. They are patrons of Tamil arts and literature.
The Tamil Brahmins are proud of their heritage and devotion to Hinduism. Pride can keep them from humbly asking for help from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Tamil Brahmin students studying in the West can hear the gospel though campus ministries. Literature is available in Tamil and Hindi. Indian believers can share the blessings of knowing Christ.
Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord—rejoice in His presence! Ps 68:4
May today’s people group feel His holy presence when they worship Him.
There are no known believers among the Tamil Brahmins. Pray that the Lord brings many to Himself soon through the witness of Indian believers. * Pray for the eyes of Tamil Brahmin hearts to be open to Jesus Christ. * Pray for Christ to reveal Himself to Brahmin leaders through dreams, visions, and the Bible. * Pray for Holy Spirit directed Christ followers to go to Tamil Brahmin communities.
