The Majhi community, a low status community, works as landless farm laborers for other landowning castes. As keen craftsmen, they also make bamboo baskets to sell at the market. Majhi houses are made of mud and thatch. They were formerly animists but now consider themselves as Hindus, although India's other Hindus shun the Majhi. Nonetheless, they are said to be clever, strong and industrious. The Majhi live mostly in Chhattisgarh.
Since the Majhi are a poor people, they lack proper education among other things. Without literacy, it is difficult to have access to the gospel. Their low status keeps them away from people from other communities who might otherwise introduce them to the Savior.
The Majhi may be reached by Christian doctors, teachers, and other community development workers who minister the love of Jesus to their community.
"Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah" Psalm 67:3-4
Pray that this day will come soon!
Pray that God would give courage and wisdom to Majhi believers in communicating the Truth to their people in a way that is easy to understand. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring forth a zealous, reproducing Majhi church that will boldly lead thousands to the Throne of Grace.
