Brahmin Gaur in India

pronounced: gore BRAH-min

Gaur Brahmins live in northern India. They are a sub caste of Brahmins, the highest caste in Hinduism. Brahmins traditionally serve as the priests, scholars and teachers of the Hindu religion. Today many Gaur are landowners and work in agriculture. Lower castes often cultivate land owned by Brahmins. The Gaur encourage their sons and daughters to obtain graduate degrees and enter careers like computer science, medicine, engineering, and public administration.

Ministry Obstacles

The Gaur Brahmins are proud of their heritage and status. Pride can often be an obstacle for people who might otherwise accept the free gift of salvation.

Outreach Ideas

Hindu background believers can share with the Gaur how Christ can change their lives for the better. Gaur university students who are studying in the West can be told about the claims of Christ and the forgiveness He offers.

Scripture Focus

Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises. Ps 66:8

Scripture Prayer

Pray that today’s people group will loudly sing His praises to other nations.

Prayer Focus

There are no known believers in the Gaur community. Ask God to move Hindu background believers to tell them about the God of the Bible. * Pray for Holy Spirit to direct believers to go to live in Gaur Brahmin communities. * Pray for Christ to reveal Himself to Gaur Brahmins. * Pray for the eyes of Gaur Brahmins to be opened to Jesus Christ as Lord and king.
