pronounced: DAY-shuh-stuh BRAH-min
The Deshastha Brahmins live in the region of west central India. Their name means "residents of the country." The Deshastha have a long history of being Hindu philosophers, scholars, saints and priests. During the Maratha Empire (1647-1818) the Deshastha served as the leading priests, administrators and military officers of the realm. Today the Deshastha officiate at the main Hindu temples of the Indian state of Maharashtra.
The Deshastha Brahmins are one of the highest castes in Hinduism. They are proud of their heritage and status. Pride can get in the way of a person becoming a believer.
Indian background believers can explain that Christ can liberate the Deshastha from Hindu works system. Indian believers can build relationships with the Deshastha and show them how Christ blesses entire families.
There are no known believers in Christ among the Deshastha. We can pray that Indian believers will develop friendships with them and tell them about the Savior. * Pray for the Holy Spirit to work powerfully through those ministering to the Brahmin peoples. * Pray for movements to Jesus to sweep through Deshastha families, permeating the group from within. * Ask God to overthrow spiritual forces of darkness keeping them away from His best.
"Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations." Luke 24:46-47
