Arakh in India

pronounced: ah-RAHK

The Arakh are an ancient Kshatriya clan, which once ruled large areas of Awadh, the area of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh that borders Nepal's western end. The Kshatriya are the second highest caste in Hinduism, the descendants of kings, nobles and warriors. The word Arakh means, "sun" in Sanskrit. The Arakh claim descent form Rama who was an avatar or reincarnation of Vishnu, the preserver god. Today many Arakh work in agriculture and cannot read or write.

Ministry Obstacles

Since some Arakh are illiterate the gospel needs to be presented in oral and visual forms as well as printed forms. As Kshatriyas, some Arakh may take pride in their high place in Hinduism.

Outreach Ideas

Films and radio programs are available in Hindi, the main language of the Arakh.

Scripture Focus

Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever. Ps 73:25-26

Scripture Prayer

Pray for many from today’s people to know that they must have no other God but the Lord.

Prayer Focus

There are no known believers among the Arakh at the present time. Pray that God brings many Arakh to Himself soon. * Pray for laborers to sow God's Word to persons and households of peace, which will in turn catalyze movements to Christ among the Arakh people. * Pray that God will overthrow spiritual forces of darkness in the Arakh people opposing the spread of his gospel. * Ask the Lord to raise up and send out a new generation of fruitful, multiplying witnesses from among the Arakh people.
