pronounced: TEL-uh-goo BRAH-min
The Telugu Brahmins are among the highest status peoples of southwest India. Brahmin means "one who knows God." As their names suggests, they speak the south Indian language of Telugu. They also speak Hindi and English. Some of the Telugu Brahmins have left the priesthood to pursue secular occupations such as being government officials, military leaders and business owners. Some Telugu today continue the traditional Brahmin roles as temple priests. Telugu Brahmins are also active in the arts as actors, filmmakers, musicians, and painters.
Brahmins usually believe that they have everything to gain by remaining in the Hindu religious system. Unless community leaders accept Christ's direction, others will not dare become His disciples.
Telugu Brahmin students studying in the West can hear the claims of Christ through campus ministries.
Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy. Ps 68:5
May the widows and orphans among this people group become part of His family.
There are no known followers of Christ among the Telugu Brahmins. Pray that God bring many of them to himself soon through the witness of other believers. * Pray that the Telugu Brahmins receive a hunger for the truth of the Word of God. * Pray for a movement of Telugu Brahmin households to study the Bible and accept the blessings of Christ. * Pray that the Lord to raise up Telugu Brahmins to disciple many.
