Gonrhi in India

The Gonrhi (or Mallah) have traditionally been fishermen and farmers. They have a number of sub-castes and clans (gotras). Their caste council is a four-tier arrangement made up of representatives of village groupings and elected individuals. Traditionally they accept water and food from other communities but the higher castes do not accept the same from the Gonrhi. They worship Bisahari as their chief goddess. Their sacred specialists belong to the Brahmin community, whose services are required in worshipping and during the observance of their birth, marriage and death rites.

Ministry Obstacles

The Gonrhi have reported themselves as 100% Hindu to the census of India.

Outreach Ideas

Please pray workers who know how to tell stories from scripture will be sent to the Gonrhi community, and that the Gonrhi will be spiritually prepared for their arrival.

Pray for the followers of Christ

We trust that soon there will be many followers of Jesus Christ among the Gonrhi people. Pray they will learn to be filled with the Lord's Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and spritual songs, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything. Pray for the Gonrhi in Bangladesh and Nepal as well as in India.

Pray for the entire people group

Please pray this low caste community will increasingly be able to improve their lot in life, especially so by being set free from spiritual bondage to dark spiritual forces.
