How would you like to be known for rolling cigarettes? What about having a reputation as a basket weaver? These have probably never been your professional or personal goals in life, but they are the heritage and present circumstance of the Baiti people. As Dalits, the lowest community, they have little else to hope for.
The total population of this people group, residing in India and Bangladesh, is just over 50,000. Finding members of the Baiti is the first challenge. Reaching them with the gospel in a way that will convince them to turn away from anything that gets in the way of Christ's transforming grace is another.
As one of the servant castes, the Baiti's lives are characterized by hard labor and poverty. Demonstrating Christ's love with both preaching and humanitarian care could be an effective way to draw them to the loving King of kings.
"Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you." Psalm 63:3
May many from this people group understand this and act upon it.
The Baiti lead difficult lives. Pray for the Lord to enter into their hardship and reveal to them his love and life. Pray for the Baiti to have open hearts and be responsive to God's presence by moving as a group into his loving community.
