pronounced: kah-teek
Khatik means "butcher". In ancient times the main profession of the Khatik caste was to slaughter and prepare sheep and goats. Later their occupation was tanning hides and selling sheep hairs for wigs and meat to butchers. Nowadays people of Khatik community are selling vegetables and scrap dealers. They collect waste paper, plastic, etc to sell. There are some doctors, engineers, teachers and lawyers among them. Because they once handled carcasses, they are among the lowest in the Hindu social system.
At this point in time, there are no Khatiks who have fallen in love with Jesus, who can share His blessings with others in their community.
Their cultural and religious history suggests they are open to change. Professional ties can cross religious, clan, and caste barriers. Although the majority are Hindus, some are Sikhs or Muslims. Who will take Christ to them?
Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God. Ps 20:7
Pray that many from this “nation” will boast only in the name of the Lord.
Pray for believers among this people group to disciple others who will disciple still others. *Ask God to put an end to the discrimination faced by the Khatiks and other Dalit communities in India. *Pray for workers to go to the Khatik people, and for their hearts to be ready to receive their savior. *May the Khatiks realize that the true God doesn't consider them to be inferior, but instead, He lovingly accepts all into His kingdom who will humbly call on His great Name.
