Urdu Speakers in Saudi Arabia originated in South Asia. They possess a group identity based on cultural and historical factors: the Islamic religion and the Urdu language. Urdu speakers in Saudi Arabia include the illiterate and the educated, the poor and the money lenders, the landlords and the religious leaders. Presently there is such diversity among these Urdu speakers that it is difficult to identify how to approach them.
Although they are Muslims, this is no longer a unifying factor due to differences among sects and social classes. Confusion and darkness reigns where truth and light must reign. They must be reached where they are, whether in their South Asian homelands or Saudi Arabia.
Believers of many backgrounds, educations, and skills are needed to take this opportunity to live His life before this varied people group and to reach them with the gospel.
There are no known Urdu speaking followers of Christ in Saudi Arabia, so pray that this will be the decade when a disciple-making movement begins among them, transforming their communities.
* Pray for God to raise up bi-vocational lay leaders to creatively show poor Urdu speakers ways to earn a better living, and how to allow Jesus to bless their lives. * Movements happen with abundant gospel sowing, so ask God to pave the way for Urdu speakers to become part of His “forgiven” family.
