Although the Turkmen are one of Central Asia's major people groups, they are a minority in Afghanistan, which is notable because they have formidable economic impact there. As a relatively small portion of the country's total population, their herdsmen supply world markets with prized Karakul sheep pelts and magnificent wool carpets from their renowned weavers. As with most of the region's peoples, hospitality is a defining characteristic.
Turkmen are Sunni Muslims, although the designation is largely one of cultural identification. Few know or practice its beliefs, intertwining them with old shamanistic holdovers that include curses, "evil-eye" charms and magic.
The Turkmen need to see the power of the Holy Spirit in action before they will understand what they are missing.
"So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus Himself and then delivered to us by those who heard Him speak?" Hebrews 2:3
Pray that this people group would not ignore good news of salvation announced by the Lord Jesus.
There are no known followers of Christ at this time. * Pray for deliverance of the families and communities among the Turkmen in Afghanistan from fears that hinder them from embracing their Savior. * Ask the Holy Spirit to replace their fear with His love, power, and self-discipline, as God's blessing will flow from family to family.
