Azeri or Azerbaijani live in Igdir, where they are the largest people group, and also in Kars where they are the second largest group. They originated from Azerbaijan; many left for financial reasons. They speak Azerbaijani and Turkish. Azeri are at home generally in Turkish society, except for religious differences. Turks are Sunni and Azeris are Shi'as.
Azeri Turks in Turkey are Shia Muslims. Although written, audio, and visual Bible resources exist in Azeri Turkish language of Azerbaijani, these people for whom Christ gave His life remain unreached.
Pray for a "Book of Acts" type of movement to Christ to begin among the Azeri Turkish people, and that a movement in which the Holy Spirit leads and empowers disciples to make more disciples will move across this spiritually barren land.

There are no known followers of Christ among the Azeri Turkish people in Turkey. Pray this will soon change. * Turkey is one of the most dangerous places on earth to be a follower of Jesus Christ today. Pray that spiritual hunger will overpower physical fear, and that churches will be planted among Azeri Turks soon.
