pronounced: jaht
The Jat are a dominant peasant community of north-west India. Popular local tradition attributes their origin to the matted hair (jata) of Lord Shiva. Another tradition connects them with Jata, one of the sons of Brahma, the Supreme Being. Current scholarship suggests that the Jat were a section of the pastoral communities who migrated from Central Asia to western India between the second century BC and fifth century AD.
The Jat fear Christiandom and the Gospel as an invading foreign influence that breaks up families and promotes many social problems.
Pray for workers needed to sow God's Word into Jat families, healing and strengthening households with God's blessings.
"They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties—lyre and harp, tambourine and flute—but they never think about the Lord or notice what He is doing." Isaiah 5:12
Pray that many from this people group will notice and respond to what God is doing.
Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Jat community to be effective in blessing and healing their families through sharing and discussing the Word of God. Pray for a movement of God's blessing to flow through Jat families discussing and applying God's Word.
