pronounced: kah-CHEE
Education is given to both male and female Kachhi, however continued study is not encouraged for women. The diet is traditionally vegetarian (which reflects both their Hindu background and agrarian lifestyle). However as Hindu nominalism creeps in, their diet now occasionally includes meat. The Kachhi Hindus predominantly worship Hanuman, Rama, Krishna Shiva, Kali, and Durga. They celebrate various major Hindu festivals and practice rituals of cremation, preferring to place ashes in the Ganges River. In the cities, many of the younger Hindu Kachhi are becoming more and more nominal. In Gujarat some have started to adopt Muslim concepts and festivals like Ramadan.
Workers going to this people group need to be aware that a total of 25 languages are spoken within the community. This suggests a number of outreach projects are needed.
Perhaps the Lord will lead indigenous Indian workers to the Kachhi community. Pray for many evangelistic efforts to be raised up for these people who have no known Christians among them.
"Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts." Exodus 31:2-3
Pray that as members of this people group become part of God’s holy family that they will also find His purposes for them.
Pray that many will interact with believers in their everyday lives and learn about the True God. Pray for improving literacy levels among this community, especially among the younger people. Pray for the youth to gain a desire to learn more about Jesus.
