The Malay people live in Southeast Asia, and they rigidly enforce Sunni Islam on their people. Their country, Malaysia, hosts many ethnic groups that can be Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, animists or Christian. Though their country hosts many others, some Malay are hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as they work there. They tend to take high status positions in engineering, banking and education.
There is much more pressure to remain Muslim for Malays than there is for most other Sunni Muslim peoples. They get even less influence from other religious communities in the UAE than they get in Malaysia. All their lives it is drilled into the Malay that to be Malay is to be Muslim.
There are believers in the UAE, and there are fewer restriction than there are in Malaysia. The UAE might be a good place for Christian businessmen to reach the Muslim Malays.
"But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." Acts 20:24
Pray that today’s people group would experience God’s wonderful grace and begin to tell others about Him.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will give the Malays in the UAE a willingness to question institutionalized Islam. Pray for workers to go to them. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Malay in the UAE.
