Most Dolpa have settled down to permanent villages, but some continue to lead a nomadic life, traveling with their herds. Their villages are located 12,000-15,500 feet above sea level. Their rough stone houses make their villages look like forts. Severe weather has made the Dolpa a hardy people. They have been in Nepal for many centuries, but probably originated in Tibet. Buddhism and the ancient shamanistic Bon religion blend harmoniously side by side among the Dolpa.
The Dolpa people live in remote portions of Nepal at high elevations. Also, there are few Christian resources available in their language.
Gospel recordings are available in the language of the Dolpa. Perhaps Nepali believers will be led to take these recordings to the Dolpa people, being available to answer their questions and start a fellowship of believers.
"They read from the book of the Law of God, telling the meaning of it so that they understood what was read." Nehemiah 8:8
Pray for this people group to understand God’s word when they hear it.
In recent years, a few Dolpa individuals have become followers of Christ. They need the prayers of outsiders. Pray their faith will be strengthened. Pray they will have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ask God to deliver families and communities within the Dolpa people from fears that hinder them from embracing His blessings. Until very recently the Dolpa were totally untouched with the gospel of Christ; pray these many years of darkness will be replaced with the pervading light of the gospel of Christ. Pray for a disciple making movement among the Dolpa.
