Darzi (Hindu traditions) in India

pronounced: DAR-zee

The Darzi originally lived in Central Asia and migrated to India long ago. The word darzi means "tailor" in Hindi-Urdu. Not surprisingly, the primary occupation of the Darzi is sewing and production of clothes and fabrics. Educated Darzi have taken jobs in medicine, government, as engineers and as college professors. The most spoken language of the Darzi is Hindi. Others Darzi speak the regional languages where they live. The Darzi live throughout the nation of India. Most Darzi work in cities and towns practicing their trade of sewing and making clothing. They sell their clothes in shops and in village markets.

Ministry Obstacles

Since there are no known believers in this community, Hindu Darzi people are not seeing victorious spiritual lives lived out among those they are closest to.

Outreach Ideas

Like everyone else, the Hindu Darzis love festivals. Believers can use Easter, Christmas, Pentecost, and other times of the year to host festivals with culturally appropriate music and skits. It can be a time to invite people from Hindu and Muslim cultures, including the Darzis.

Prayer Items

As far as we know there are no Christ followers from the Hindu Darzi community, so pray that this will soon change. * Pray the Hindu Darzi people would find their true riches in the Lord Jesus. * Pray the Lord would lead the Darzis to hunger for and read the Bible. It is available in all three of their languages. * Pray the Lord would raise up growing, Bible believing fellowships in their community.

Scripture Focus

"And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Acts 20:32
