Basor in India

pronounced: bah-SOOR

The Basor people live west, south and central India. They are generally clustered on the outskirts of a city where they can practice their traditional trade of basket making and bamboo working. The women serve as midwives to the villagers. Lal or Ram is joined with the given name to signify they are of the Basor caste. The main languages of the Basor are Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Many of the Basor are unable to read and write. Some have problems with alcohol.

Ministry Obstacles

Since many of the Basor are illiterate, the gospel will be to be presented in oral and visual form. Some of the higher caste Hindi believers may not want to associate with the Basor.

Outreach Ideas

Films and radio programs are available in the three primary languages of the Basor. Teachers can come to them and help them learn new job skills so they can better compete in modern Indian society. Other teachers can help their children learn to read and write.

Prayer Items

At the present time there are no known believers among the Basor. Pray that God brings many to Himself through the witness of believers. * Pray that the hearts of Basor people will be softened and opened to the gospel. * Pray that alcoholism would have no power in this community and that the ancient traditions that keep the Basors in bondage would be broken. * Pray that believers would be called to proclaim the hope of Jesus to the Basor.

Scripture Focus

"a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all" Colossians 3:11
